Essential storage, optional service measurement, and how to change your choice.

    LAST UPDATED · 14 September 2026

    Your choice

You can use the free check, buy a product and open your case without optional measurement. We ask before storing a measurement identifier or joining your visit to your check, requested result email, purchase and account. This helps us understand where people need help and which invitations lead to useful paid products.

We do not use advertising pixels, third-party analytics, heat maps or session replay. Choosing measurement is not permission to send marketing.

What we store in your browser

    ItemPurposeWhen / lifetime
Supabase sign-in session (sb-…-auth-token)Keeps you signed in and refreshes your session. When you sign in; until sign-out or session expiry.
Free-check draft (stm.start.v1) and saved check accessResumes answers and proves this device created the check. Photographs are not stored in the draft. When you use the check. The draft clears on completion; saved access lasts until expired or site data is cleared.
Measurement choice (stm.measurement.choice.v1)Remembers whether you accepted or declined optional measurement. After your choice; valid for 180 days or until the policy version changes. Clearing site data removes it.
Optional visit (stm.measurement.visit.v1)A random identifier and proof, with public campaign codes, for this tab. With consent we link it to product actions and purchases.Only after acceptance; valid for 24 hours and removed when the tab closes or measurement is turned off.
Optional legacy session (stm_session_id)Counts categorical events in the older first-party usage record. It is separate from the new linked measurement.Only after acceptance; until the tab closes or measurement is turned off.
Stripe cookiesFraud prevention and running the payment form.On checkout and Stripe's billing portal; controlled by Stripe's cookie policy.

    Optional measurement records

We record public campaign codes, broad page categories and actions such as finishing a check or opening checkout. Measurement events do not contain answers, photographs, street addresses, email text, full URLs or card details. Where you ask for a result email or buy a product, an authorised server can join the check and contact to your consenting visit. This is pseudonymous linked information, not anonymous data.

New visit records, events and their check/contact links are automatically removed after 90 days. Turning measurement off stops new events and requests removal of this tab's linked events and check links. Other tabs and devices have separate visits. If we cannot confirm the request, the choice screen tells you; email hello@stopthemould.com for help with earlier records.

Payment and fulfilment records are still needed to supply and account for what you buy. Turning measurement off does not delete your case, order or requested support enquiry. See the privacy policy for those records and your rights.

    Browser controls

Clearing site data signs you out and removes saved drafts, check access and your measurement choice. Blocking all storage may prevent sign-in, resuming a check or payment. Private browsing normally removes browser storage when its last window closes.
